Orioles Win In Extra Innings To Take Two to One Series Lead

Tonight’s game was one for the ages when the Baltimore Orioles walked off to win five to four against the Tampa Bay Rays. Both pitchers Wade LeBlanc (Orioles) and Tyler Glasnow (Tampa Bay) pitched a lights out game.

However, in the bottom of the fourth inning, Renato Nunez homered off of Glasnow to left center field to give the Orioles a one to nothing lead. In that same inning, Rio Ruiz hit a RBI single to right field to score Dwight Smith Jr. to give the Orioles a two to nothing lead.

LeBlanc kept the Rays quiet on the scoreboard up until the top of the sixth inning when Mike Brosseau homered to left center field to cut in to the Orioles lead, making the game two to one.

The Orioles followed suit in the bottom of the sixth when Pedro Severino got on the board with a RBI single to bring in Nunez, bringing the game to three to one with the Orioles on top.

Subsequently, Ruiz hits a sacrifice fly ball to bring in Smith Jr. which extended the Orioles’ lead to four to one.

The Rays buckled down in the top of the eighth to score a combined three runs. Those runs came from a Jose Martinez single to bring in Joey Wendle (four to two Orioles). Additionally, a force out by Brandon Lowe to bring across Yandy Diaz (four to three Orioles). Finally, a RBI single by Kevin Kiermaier to bring in Yoshi Tsutsugo (four to four).

The game would go in to a stressful two extra innings where Pat Valaika would walk off the game for the Orioles with a single to right field to bring in Bryan Holaday.

The Orioles are looking for a series sweep tomorrow afternoon. With the win tonight, the Orioles sit at second place in the American League East and fourth place in the American League as a whole.
