Orioles Trade Snyder, Acquire Jai Miller

With rumors circulating about the situation of CF Adam Jones and a potential Coco Crisp signing, the Orioles did make a few minor moves Tuesday. Baltimore shipped minor league 1B/3B, Brandon Snyder, to the Texas Rangers for cash considerations; reported on MLB.com by T.R. Sullivan. Snyder was originally a catcher for the Orioles but got moved to corner infield spots first and third base. He was originally drafted in 2005, number 13 overall (MLBTradeRumors.com). Snyder was blocked by Mark Reynolds and Chris Davis at the major league level.

With the trade of Snyder, the Orioles have opened a spot on their 40 man roster. MLB Trade Rumors is reporting the Orioles then sent cash considerations over to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for outfielder, Jai Miller.

“Miller, 26, hit .276/.368/.588 with 32 home runs in 475 Triple-A plate appearances this year, his fourth stint at the level. He spent most of his time in center and right field.” (MLBTradeRumors)

With Oakland having traded Gio Gonzalez to the Nationals and getting four players, they designated him for assignment just recently. Miller brings speed and athleticism to our outfield if he makes the club.

While this does not completely clear up the Orioles outfield picture, it provides some idea of the direction Dan Duquette is going–which is to provide depth. As far as the Adam Jones rumors, we need to hold out for an offer that blows us away. Otherwise, expect Jones to suit up wearing the black and orange in 2012.
