Orioles Release 3B Danny Valencia

The Baltimore Orioles released third baseman, Danny Valencia today on August 15th, 2018. Valencia held a contract for 1 year, worth $1.2 million dollars with the O’s. Valencia played third base, first base, and occasionally in the outfield

Statistics wise, Valencia hit for an average of .263, launched 9 home runs, drove in 28 runners(counted as RBI’s), stole 1 base, and additionally batted for an OPS of .723. Throughout his career, Valencia hit for a batting average of .268, smacked 96 home runs, stacked upon 397 RBI’s, robbed 11 bases, and hit for an OPS of .742. Valencia has been an average to at best decent player for the Orioles, as he has not recorded spectacular numbers.

Look for the Orioles to continue to rebuild and release, trade, or DFA their veterans and build upon young prospects. The Orioles will play the New York Mets today, and the pitching matchup is scheduled to be RHP Dylan Bundy(7-10, 4.70 ERA) facing off against RHP Zack Wheeler(7-6, 3.82 ERA).
