Orioles Name Sig Mejdal Assistant General Manager

The Baltimore Orioles have named Sig Mejdal as their new assistant general manger. Mejdal will take the duties of assisting the newly hired general manager, Mike Elias. Mejdal was brought in due to his high intelligence as an analytics chief and he should help bring the Orioles back to winning in the next few seasons, as they rebuild.

Mejdal was formerly a NASA engineer, and he should bring an interesting approach to the table for the Orioles. Mejdal has had no prior experience with MLB as an assistant general manager, however, he was hired as an quantitative analyst for the Cardinals in 2005, and was an analytics guru for the Houston Astros. Adding on, “Mejdal has worked with minor league players and coaches in an effort to help them utilize new technology and data at the field level,” according to MLBtraderumors.com

Here is a statement from the Orioles about the acquisition of Sig Mejdal.

Sig Mejdal has been named Orioles Assistant General Manager, Analytics. Mejdal will oversee all aspects of the club’s growing analytics efforts while assisting and advising EVP & General Manager Mike Elias.
