Orioles acquire catcher Rodriguez from Philadelphia

The Baltimore Orioles have acquired catcher Lenin Rodriguez from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for international signing bonus money. Rodriguez is only 20-years old and is from Maracaibo, Venezuela.

Rodriguez was signed by the Phillies at age 17. He is a career .263 hitter in four major league seasons, all in the Phillies organization. He has not played in the big leagues but adds depth to an already stacked catching position for Baltimore.

Rodriguez has spent most of his time in the low minors since signing for $300,000 out of Venezuela in 2015. The young catcher, who has yet to turn 21 years old, has batted .298 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 114 at-bats. Rodriguez was considered the number four catcher in the Phillies organization.
