NXT Recap 7/4/2018

Shayna Baszler Calls Out NXT Women’s Division

In a promo that didn’t contribute to the overall episode, the champion continued her “badass” image as she claimed to be the best talent and a force in the NXT Women’s Division. Though the segment didn’t set the stage for a feud, Baszler was able to advance her heel image and gain a strong reaction from the NXT crowd.

Undisputed Era Invoke Rematch Clause

After an impressive showing in a six man tag match last Wednesday, The Undisputed Era cut a promo invoking their rematch clause, and setting up another match between Adam Cole and Danny Burch. Burch’s partner Oney Lorcan took a nasty bump in Chicago, and has been on the shelf since then, leaving Burch open for singles booking.

Heavy Machinery Feud with The Mighty

Early in the night, we were shown a video of Tucker Knight being attacked by guys that resembled The Mighty. Since Knight was unavailable, Otis Dozovic, the other half of Heavy Machinery faced off against The Mighty in a handicap match. The Mighty struggled to defeat just one member of Heavy Machinery after being handily defeated by the War Raiders just last week.

EC3 and Velveteen Dream on Crash Course

Velveteen Dream’s night began with a match against Chris Dijak, which he won in impressive fashion. Dream may finally be coming into a face role, which seems to work better on the crowd. Following the match, EC3 entered early for his upcoming match against Johnny Gargano, giving NXT fans a taste of a possible feud between Dream and EC3.

Johnny Gargano Falling from Grace

Gargano has had a tough go recently, following his extended feud with Tomasso Ciampa both mentally and physically. Johnny seems as though he is now becoming ‘the monster he set out to destroy.’ He put on a good show with EC3 in the main event, but it seemed to set up a character play with Johnny rather than a feud between Johnny and EC3.
