Nationals shut out Royals 6-0 for Expos Day

The Washington Nationals defeated the Kansas City Royals in a 6-0 shutout on the Nationals' Montreal Expos Day. Max Scherzer threw seven strong innings that ended in four hits, one walk, and 11 strikeouts. Tanner Rainey and Matt Grace provided excellent relief pitching in the eighth and ninth innings with only one hit each, a walk for Rainey, and a strikeout for Grace.

In the first inning, Juan Soto hit an RBI single that scored Trea Turner but threw Adam Eaton out at home. In the second, Kurt Suzuki hit a solo home run, and Turner's caught stealing allowed Victor Robles to run home and score. In the seventh inning, Anthony Rendon's sacrifice fly scored Gerardo Parra, and Juan Soto hit an RBI single that got Adam Eaton home. On top of the massive run support for Scherzer, Scherzer himself singled in the fourth inning and then stole second base, making it his second career steal.

The Nationals hope to take the series tomorrow before the All-Star break. Patrick Corbin will start against Jakob Junis. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 pm ET.
