Nationals beat Pirates 11-1; recap 8/21/19

The Washington Nationals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday evening at PNC Park. The Nationals’ record currently stands at 69-57. The Pirates drop to 52-74.

Patrick Corbin pitched a very strong eight innings for Washington. Corbin allowed three hits and four strikeouts while pitching. Tanner Rainey allowed two hits and zero strikeouts while in relief for Washington.

In the top of the third inning, right fielder Adam Eaton doubled to right, Corbin scored, Turner to third. In addition, third baseman Anthony Rendon recorded his 100th RBI this season where he singled to center, Turner scored and Eaton scored. Also, Asdrubal Cabrera homered to center (389 feet), Rendon scored and Soto scored.

At the top of the eighth inning, catcher Yan Gomes doubled to center, Robles scored and Adams scored. Additionally , pitcher Patrick Corbin doubled to deep center, Gomes scored. Futhermore, pinch hitter Adrian Sanchez singled to center where Robles scored, Gomes to third.

Finally, in the top of the ninth, shortstop Trea Turner singled to left, Gomes scored, Sanchez to second.

With a win over the Pirates, the Nationals play the final game of the series tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Pitching for the Nationals will be Max Scherzer.
