Updated: Michal Kempny to Sign Multi-Year Deal with Capitals

Michal Kempny Agrees to Re-Sign with Stanley Cup Champion Capitals

News broke late Thursday night that Michae
l Kempny will re-sign with the Washington Capitals on a multi-year deal. Kempny was one of five restricted free agents that the Capitals extended a qualifying offer to. The deal will be $10 million over a 4 year window, with it broken down as follows: Year 1 – $3.3, Year 2 – $2.7, Year 3 – $1.8, Year 4- $2.2.

Kempny was a key cog in the wheel for Washington’s Stanley Cup run. Acquired before the trade deadline, Kempny helped to sure up a shaky defense that had been plaguing the Capitals all season. The Capitals will now have their top two defensive pairs coming back, with their third pair expected to be Christian Djoos and either Madison Bowey or Jakub Jerabek. Kempny will be able to continue revitalizing a career that had seemingly stalled in Chicago, while Washington re-signs a key piece if they expect to make another cup run this coming season.
