Matheiu Debuchy’s two goals lift St Etienne to 4-1 win over Montpellier in EA Ligue 1 Action at Audi Field

The first game of the EA Ligue 1 Games at Audi Field between Montpellier and St. Etienne featured plenty of scoring and a tale of two halves. The first half was evenly matched for the first 30 minutes. Montpellier scored two late goals to take a 2-1 lead to the locker room. In the second, St. Etienne responded with three unanswered goals to take the 4-1 win and secure their spot in Sunday’s championship game.

It was a competitive first half. St. Etinne controlled much of the possession in the beginning of the first half and were rewarded with the game’s first goal. A deflection play by Mathieu Debuchy in the 33rd minute put St. Etinne ahead 1-0.

But then Montpellier answered right back just over two minutes later to tie the game and added another to take the lead just before the half. Vitorino Hilton tied the game with a great cut to the middle of the net to tap in the equalizer.

In the 45th minute of stoppage time, Montpellier answered with penalty kick from Gaetan Laborde to give them a 2-1 lead going into halftime.

St. Etienne’s comeback began in the 52nd minute with a free kick goal from near midfield by Remy Cabella to tie the score at 2. Debuchy added his second goal of the game off a nifty pass in front of the net from Lois Diony to give St. Etienne. Diorny added a goal of his own in the 83rd minute to seal the victory.

St Etienne will play the winner of the O. Marseille-FCG Bordeaux match that will begin at 9 p.m. tonight.
