Loyola's Season Ends With Loss to Albany

Loyola’s remarkable season ended early on Saturday, as Albany defeated the Hounds 13-6 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

After two quick goals by the Great Danes, Pat Laconi scored the first goal for the Greyhounds. After thee more Albany goals, Romar Dennis and Nikko Pontrello scored back to back for the Greyhounds to cut the lead to 5-3. In the third quarter, Laconi struck again for his second goal of the day. Justin Ward also chipped in two goals for the home team.

However, the Thompson trio of Lyle, Ty, and Miles was too much for Loyola. Those three had 10 of 13 Albany goals: Miles had 5, Lyle with 3, and Ty with 2. Jack Runkel made 11 saves in his final collegiate game, but Loyola’s D, led by Joe Fletcher, could not contain Albany’s powerful offense.

Loyola finishes the 2014 at 15-2, with their only losses to begin and end the season. The Greyhounds won the Patriot League championship.
