Several months ago I was afforded the opportunity to join the Maryland Sports Blog team. Living over a thousand miles from Baltimore, I was uncertain what I could contribute but was excited for the chance to write about the Orioles. I began following the site, reading the work of the other writers as they covered my favorite team and quickly found my help was definitely not needed.
In fact, the so called “experts” at the major sports companies could offer very little to this well run site. Maryland Sports Blog quickly became the one location I turned to for information on the Orioles. And with the Orioles in contention all year, before locking up the division, there was a great deal to follow. It has been a great regular season and I am more excited for this year’s playoffs than I have been in a long while.
So, with the Orioles playoff run just about to start, I wanted to take the time to put up my first Orioles post, a self-serving note saying thank you. Thank you to both the Orioles for a fantastic season but also to all those at MSB that made following the team so great this season.
With TV and radio coverage scarce out here in Missouri, I followed most games through the Orioles and MSB twitter feeds so the first thank you goes there.
Thank you for the player profiles from Brian Hradsky and the heads up on future stars from Chris Moore and Ian Jett. Thank you to Nick Markakis, Adam Jones, and Nelson Cruz for carrying the team through the injuries to fellow stars Manny Machado and Matt Wieters. Thank you for the history lessons on the Orioles from Bill Pemstein. Thank you to Chris Tillman, Bud Norris, Darren O’Day, Tommy Hunter and the rest of the pitching staff for pushing through the setbacks and slumps of a long season. Thank you to Andy Hefty for showing the connecting power of a fan’s enthusiasm. Thank you to Jonathan Schoop, Ryan Flarehty, and Caleb Joseph for stepping up when needed and the rest of the guys like JJ Hardy, Steve Pierce and Delmon Young that embraced their roles in contributing to the successful season. Thank you to Buck Showalter for guiding the team back to the playoffs.
Thank you to the Baltimore Orioles for not being satisfied.
LET’S GO O’S!!!!
