Yow nets first D.C. United goal

D.C. United may have fallen 5-2 to Real Betis at Audi Field Wednesday, but there were two positives from this outcome for the Black and Red.

The first was that this game does not count in the MLS standings, as this contest was a friendly. The second was two players notched their first goals with D.C. United, Griffin Yow and Quincy Amarikwa.

Real Betis scored two goals in the first half to go up 2-0 at halftime, then Griffin Yow got on the board in the 47th minute. Yow was signed by D.C. United in March and is just 16-years-old. He grew up in nearby Clifton, VA.

Real Betis got one back in the 64th minute, then Amarikwa headed in a rebound in the 69th minute to close the gap within one.

That was the closest D.C. United got. Real Betis got one back three minutes later and added another in the 76th minute. Tonight’s game would be a 5-2 final.

This was a game where some of the main guys did not suit up. Wayne Rooney, Luciano Acosta, Lucas Rodriguez, and Bill Hamid were not in uniform.

D.C. United will head to Gillette Stadium Saturday night to take on the New England Revolution at 7:30 p.m. on FloFC.
