Goodbye Braden, good luck in Vancouver.

Braden Holtby, who was the goaltender for the Washington Capitals, has signed a two year contract with Vancouver. The deal is worth a total of 8.6 million. This deal is worth 4.3 million annually.

Washington selected Holtby in the 2008 NHL entry draft at 93rd overall which is in the 4th round. He spent a total of 10 seasons with Washington and eventually helped lead them to Stanley Cup in 2018.

In 468 career games, he has a 282, 122, 46, record. His goals against average is 2.53 with a save percentage of .916. His first season was the 2010-2011 season. He also won the Vezina trophy. He has been to the All Star game five times (16,17,18,19,20).

He was a big figure off the ice as well. He and his wife would raise money for meals for tens of thousands of people during the covid pandemic. He helped build a gym at Hendley Elementary school, donating time and money to it. In 2016, he was the first ever Capital to walk in the Dc Pride Parade and does so every year when the hockey schedule allows him to. He would also take time to give autographs, equipment, or take a photo with fans and never said no.

We in DC would like to wish the best to Holtby on his next chapter with Vancouver and know that it will be emotional when the Caps play the video on the screen for him when he comes back.
