Draft Preview: Elijah Green

As we approach the MLB Draft on July 17th the Orioles have 5 picks in the first 100 picks of the draft. As the draft looms closer I’ll be doing articles for possible future Orioles that could be selected. The first of these is Elijah Green of IMG Academy in Florida an outfielder and ranked second in MLB.com’s draft prospects. Elijah is 6’3 and 220lbs and is an offensive force at the plate. He’s drawn comparisons to a young Justin Upton and former Oriole All-Star center fielder Adam Jones.

His senior year he finished with a .462 average, 9 home runs, and 32 runs batted in in 25 games played. He also had 15 stolen bases and a .592 on base percentage with a 1:1 strikeout to walk rate. The MLB scouting report has Elijah as a 50 hit tool, a 60 power tool, a 70 run tool, a 60 arm tool, and a 60 fielding tool. The range for grading is 20-80, 20 being the lowest and 80 as the highest. He ranks above average in every category and when evaluating prospects tools play.

Elijah also has previous ties to Baltimore being the son of former Ravens tight end Eric Green. Although the outfield in the minor leagues is deep and is tight for playing time between, Santander, Mullins, Hays, McKenna, and Stowers at the majors, the best two players on the board at the start of the draft are both projected to be outfielders. It’ll be great to see the next first round pick for the Orioles and Elijah looks like a can’t miss pick.
