Delmarva Shorebirds Name 2019 Coaching Staff
The 2019 season is less than a month away, and the Delmarva Shorebirds have announced their new coaching staff.
Kyle Moore will be the new skipper for the Shorebirds. Moore was the manager for Low-A Aberdeen last season, leading the IronBirds to a 38-37 record. Moore, who is going into his tenth season in the Orioles organization, will take the place of Buck Britton, who was promoted to manage the Double-A Bowie Baysox. Moore was Delmarva’s Hitting Coach in 2016, a player/coach in 2015, and a Strength and Conditioning Coach in 2012, so his previous experience will aid him with adjusting to the club and returning to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Other notable positions he has filled are player/coach for Single-A Fredrick in 2013, player/coach for Double-A Bowie in 2014, and Fredrick’s Hitting Coach in 2017.
Joining Moore and entering his first professional coaching season is new Hitting Coach, Matt Trate. From 2016-2018, Trate served as an Associated Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Goldey-Beacom College (DE). Trate worked for Cecil College (MD) as Hitting Coach and Recruiting Coordinator in 2011 and 2013-2015, while serving as an Assistant Coach at the University of Akron (OH) in 2012.
Justin Ramsey will be the team’s new Pitching Coach for the upcoming season. Ramsey spent the last four seasons as a coach for Nova Southeastern University (FL). From 2010-2014, Ramsey served as a coach at Long Beach State (CA), and coached at Sacramento City College (CA) from 2005-2010.
Pat Leyland, who served as a player/coach with the Bowie Baysox last season, will be entering the 2019 season as a Field and Development Coach for the Shorebirds. Leyland played six seasons of minor league ball in the Detroit Tigers (2010-2014) and Seattle Mariners (2015) organizations. He was drafted in the 8th round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft by Detroit.
Athletic Trainer, Adrian Gonzalez, will enter his second season with the team. Gonzalez spent the 2017 season with the Aberdeen IronBirds. Along with Gonzalez, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Kevin Mixon, will be returning for his second year with the club. Mixon also spent the 2017 season with the IronBirds.
General Manager of the Delmarva Shorebirds, Chris Bitters, put out a statement regarding the 2019 staff.

The Shorebirds will host the Lakewood BlueClaws on Opening Night, April 11th, at 7:05 PM. from Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
UPDATE: As first reported by Roch Kubatko, Matt Trate will not be accepting the job of Hitting Coach for the Shorebirds due to family considerations. Replacing him will be Dan Radison, former minor league infielder/catcher. Radison has coached in the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals, and Houston Astros organizations. He last coached for the Houston Astros Double-A affiliate, the Corpus Christi Hooks in 2016.
