Colt McCoy misses first OTA’s after another leg procedure
The Washington Redskins have begun phase one of their Off-season Training Activities (OTA’s) which is limited to “strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation.” Long-time backup quarterback, and occasional starter Colt McCoy has never missed an OTA, that is until this year. J.P. Finley has reported that, according to a source, McCoy has been instructed by doctors to remain in Texas to recover “from another procedure on his leg.” McCoy suffered a broken fibula in early December and the Redskins hoped to have him back if there were to be a playoff run. This is reported to be his third procedure since the injury.
The Redskins quarterback situation is sticky, to say the least. The team traded a third round pick and a defensive back to the Chiefs for Alex Smith during the off-season last year. The expectation was that Smith would be the starter for the near future. Smith suffered a catastrophic leg injury in November and his return is unclear and uncertain. After Smith’s and McCoy’s injuries, the Redskins lined up Mark Sanchez and Josh Johnson at quarterback. This off-season the team traded a sixth round pick to the Denver Broncos for Case Keenum and a seventh round pick. Fans are wondering if Bruce Allen, Jay Gruden and company will draft a quarterback this weekend.
