College Lax Preview: #16 Georgetown (4-1) vs Furman (2-4)

On Tuesday, the 16th ranked Georgetown Hoyas’ Mens College Lacrosse team takes on Furman at home at 12:00 P.M. The Hoyas are coming off of two big wins against Mount Saint Mary’s and Hofstra. Furman lost on Saturday by one goal to Utah. In their prior game, they put up 26 versus Hampton posting a twenty goal victory. Inside Lacrosse’s computer prediction model calls this game a close one with the Hoyas pulling out a 13-11 victory.

For the Hoyas, Senior Daniel Bucaro and Junior Jake Carraway continue to lead the way combining for 29 goals and 19 assists. Furman’s offensive attack is led by Sophomore Jarrett Birch who has scored 13 goals to go with three assists. Georgetown’s defense is led by Sophomore Gibson Smith who has recorded 12 caused turnovers on the year to go with 27 ground balls. Senior Patrick Aslanian has chipped in nine caused turnovers. Between the pipes, the Hoyas’ Sophomore Owen McElroy has save 52% of shots against while Junior Alec Van De Bovenkamp has saved 49% for the Paladins.

For the Hoyas this game will come down to their ability to keep the face off wins close and continue to cause turnovers at a high rate. Georgetown doesn’t turn the ball over, ranking third in the country in turnovers per game, which could make for a long day for Furman unless they are able to pull off a large advantage in face off victories and do not allow the Hoyas second chance shots.
