Capitals vs Bruins, can the Caps stay hot

The Capitals look to stay hot, having won both games against the Islanders. This time, the team is facing the Boston Bruins for the first time. This is going to be an emotional game. Zdeno Chara was the captain for Boston and played there for the previous 14 seasons. There are also a few unknowns heading into the game such as will Ovechkin be back from the covid list? If Ovi and company are not cleared it may not be a big deal.

The reason its not a big deal if Ovi and company are not cleared from the covid list, is the team is red hot right now. The Caps fell behind 3-0 on Thursday, and came back in the second period with five goals. This is an impressive feat for multiple reasons. The goals that were scored were not scored by a bigger name player, but instead by Connor Sheary who scored twice, Garnet Hathaway, Zdeno Chara, and John Carlson.

The team was outshot 30-23 in the last game however Vanachek did stop everything thrown his way in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Vanachek has improved each of his last four games and is looking better and better.

In order to beat the Bruins, the Caps must continue to play Defensively and be on their a game in the defensive zone. They need to clear the puck to the neutral zone cleanly and not spend a lot of time back pedaling in their zone.

They must also continue to have an impressive penalty kill. They have been clearing the puck, and shutting down opponents in the defensive zone and limiting the amount of shots opponents take.

Now to address the missing players through injury and covid. Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Orlov, and Samsonov are on the covid list and have missed the past four games. They are eligible to come back in this game, however its unclear if they will be back this game. Justin Schultz got hit in the face with a puck. He left the game and did not return. Lars Eller is also out with a head injury. Its unclear how much time either player will miss.

The game is on NBC sports Washington or you can listen to the game on 106.7 fm at 7:00.
