Capitals Unveil Winter Classic Uniforms
Today, the Capitals revealed their 2015 Winter Classic Jersey at Nationals Park during a noon press event.
The 2015 Bridgestone Winter Classic between the Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks will take place on January 1st, 2015 and I’ve made my thoughts about the Winter Classic previously known.
Nicklas Backstrom makes a fantastic model by the way.
Russian Machine Never Breaks released what was believed to be the Capitals Winter Classic logo the night before the actual release to the public. Apparently they received a picture of the logo up on the Nationals Park outfield wall from a fan and reader. The leak wasn’t a fake.
The jersey itself is pretty sweet, but, at the same time something about it just doesn’t allow me to be slobbering over it. I was a big fan of the 2011 Winter Classic uniform and I have a Brooks Laich version of it in my closet ready to be worn again this season. Will I buy this version? That has yet to be determined but the chances are high.
“The primary color for the Capitals’ NHL Winter Classic uniform is vintage deep red to symbolize hockey’s deep roots in Washington,” says Monumental Networks article about the story behind this years jersey.
“To symbolize hockey’s deep roots in Washington” – yeah ok. Hockey has been in DC for 40 years on a professional level as of this year and its only been popular for about eight of those years. Great sugarcoating.
The jersey does have a nice touch of a silhouette of the Washington Monument incorporated into it which make a lot of sense.
Capitals fans will be able to pre-order the jersey on October 3rd on MonumentalNetworkShop.com or shop.nhl.com. In mid November, the jersey will be available to the public to purchase.
