The Capitals took last season’s series with a record of 3-1-0. The Caps have gathered at least one point in 12 of their past 14 games. Since returning to the lineup from an injury, right winger T.J. Oshie has only one point in six games for the Capitals. The Caps will need to get him going again offensively to continue on the track towards the playoffs. Braden Holtby is expected in net tonight for the Capitals.

The Hurricanes trail all-time with a 60-82-23-1 record against the Capitals, including a 32-38-1 record at home. The Hurricanes have earned at least a point in three of their last four games against Washington in PNC Arena. Jordan Staal has been hot against the Capitals lately, tallying seven points (3g, 4a) in his last six games.  Tonight marks Justin Williams first game against his former team. He played two seasons with the Capitals before returning to Raleigh this season.
