The 29 year old left-winger was signed by the Capitals during free agency in 2012. He was then resigned by the Caps in 2013 to a two year contract that will pay him $575,000 a season. He will become an unrestricted free agent next July if he is not resigned. Volpatti, a native of Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada has made a career by his tough play and willingness to fight.

Googling his name reveals numerous videos of him engaging in intense battles with numerous Capitals foes. Volpatti has never been anything more than a fourth line player given ice time to go out and change the game with a fight or hard hitting.

POSITION: Left Wing. Shoots Left.
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6″0’/215 pounds.
PLAYING CAREER: Volpatti was Browns fifth leading scorer during the 2008-2009 season when the Bears won just three regular season ECAC games. Brown ended up sweeping Harvard in the first round only to get swept by Yale in the next round. The following season Volpatti signed an Entry Level Contract with the Vancouver Canucks. He played for the Canucks AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, and only a handful of games with Vancouver. His career stats have been heavy on the penalty minutes.
PLAYING STYLE: Volpatti is an aggressive player. On the forecheck he will line up opponents with a big hit. He doesn’t see much ice time, and when he does, its likely to be to change the momentum in a game with a big hit or a fight. He’s the Capitals true enforcer who protects star players from rough play.
