Britton optioned Steve Johnson to get his first start

The Baltimore Orioles have announced that they have optioned Zach Britton and recalled right-handed pitcher Steve Johnson. Steve Johnson will make the emergency start tonight for the Orioles after Tommy Hunter had to warm up and get ready to go in last nights game.

Britton did not pitch well for the Orioles, he had an 8.10 ERA in five games with the Orioles. He is coming off a shoulder injury and looks like he is still trying to find his groove. Britton is still one of the Orioles most promising pitchers.

Johnson has a 2.86 ERA with the Norfolk Tides this year and has appeared in one game with the Orioles this season. In Johnson’s only appearance with the Orioles he pitched two innings and allowed a run.

A little bit of history might be made. Johnson’s father Dave Johnson recorded his first career win 23-years ago for the Orioles on August 8th, 1989. Both are homegrown pitchers.
