Nationals sign Asdrubal Cabrera to 1-year deal, make roster moves
The Washington Nationals have announced that they have signed infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to a one-year deal. The 33-year-old Venezuelan player has previously played for the Nationals in 2014, followed by the Tampa Bay Rays (2015), New York Mets (2016-2018), Philadelphia Phillies (2018), and the Texas Rangers (2019).
Before coming to the Nationals, Cabrera had signed a one-year contract with the Rangers, was designated for assignment on August 1, and then released on August 3. This signing with the Nationals gives some infield and bench security with Howie Kendrick and Ryan Zimmerman being on the IL for leg and foot injuries.
To make room for Cabrera, the Nationals optioned Adrian Sanchez to Double-A Harrisburg. Additionally, Kyle Barraclough has been designated for assignment.
We've agreed to terms on a one-year contract with INF Asdrúbal Cabrera and optioned INF Adrián Sanchez to Double-A Harrisburg.
