Nationals complete first ever five-game sweep in 6-3 victory against Phillies; recap: 9/26/19

The Washington Nationals completed their first ever five-game sweep tonight in a 6-3 victory against the Philadelphia Phillies. This marks the first five-game sweep in both Montreal Expos and Washington Nationals history, and the Nationals now rest at 90-69. Stephen Strasburg threw six outstanding innings that yielded four hits, one run, and ten strikeouts. Tanner Rainey, Javy Guerra, Fernando Rodney, and Daniel Hudson provided great relief innings, with Hudson earning his eighth save of the season.

In the first inning, Asdrubal Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly that scored Victor Robles. In the second, Michael A. Taylor hit a solo home run, his first of the season, and in the fifth, Yan Gomes walked to score Anthony Rendon. In that same inning, Cabrera scored on a wild pitch by Phillies pitcher Edgar Garcia, and Ryan Zimmerman scored on a passed ball by catcher Andrew Knapp. In the seventh, Cabrera hit a solo home run to ensure the Nationals’ victory and historic franchise milestone.

Tomorrow, Austin Voth will face Zach Plesac in the final main season series against the Cleveland Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
