Capitals vs Penguins, another game in a heated rivalry.

Today, the Capitals play their long time rival the Pittsburgh Penguins. This is game five out of eight between the two. The Capitals come in having come from behind and beating New Jersey on Sunday. The play Sunday wasn’t optimal until the third period. Lets look at some keys to winning the game today.

First, continue to stay disciplined in not taking really bad penalties or penalties in the offensive zone. This is key to keeping the play at 5-5 or even getting a power play which results in the Capitals having an extra man.

The defense struggled to get going in the first two periods but righted the ship in the third. The third period is what it took for the Capitals to win the game. The key is to get the puck cleared from the defensive zone, break up passes, and utilize the boards.

The final key is to keep the power play hot. T.J. Oshie scored twice, and John Carlson scored on another power play to come from behind to beat New Jersey. The power play needs to stay hot to utilize the mistakes the Penguins make.

The game is at 7 on NBCSN and can also be heard on 106.7 fm
