Towson Men’s Basketball Season Preview
The Towson Tigers’ basketball season begins tonight against Old Dominion University with a 7:00 p.m. matchup. Coming off a 20-13 overall record last season, and a 11-7 conference record, the Tigers are looking to improve that. The CAA preseason poll picks the Tigers to finish second in the conference. This team should easily be able to compete for the conference title and a spot in the CAA tournament. They have a solid starting lineup and are unbelievably deep.
Coaching
Head Coach Pat Skerry will be looking to continue his Towson success. Since taking the job at Towson in 2011, Skerry has had four winning seasons in his six years there, including back-to-back 20 win seasons the past two years.
Projected Starters
Backcourt: Zane Martin and Deshaun Morman (pictured)
While Martin and Morman will probably be the starters, the Tigers have great depth in the guard position. Other guards that will play a significant role for the Tigers are Brian Starr, Travis Ingram, Jordan McNeil, Jeffrey Prophete, and Van Rolle. This gives Skerry many different options and different choices for matching up with other teams.
Front Court: Mike Morsell (pictured), Justin Gorham, Alex Thomas
Mike Morsell will look to bounce back from a disappointing Junior year. The Senior is the best player on the Tiger squad and can take over a game with his solid 3-point shooting. The sophomore Gorham will probably start initially, but, as with the guards, the Tigers have some other forwards on the bench that can play a major role, like Eddie Keith II and Dennis Tunstall who will play some big minutes and maybe even start a game or two. Alex Thomas is the one true center on the team, and will look to improve upon last year when he had consistent playing time. Overall this group needs to be able to out-rebound every team they play.
Prediction:
This Tigers team is returning most of its roster from last season and added some other great players. They should easily be able to improve upon their record from last season. I see them going 23-8 and winning the conference regular season title. This will get them an NIT bid at least.
