Nationals Even Up Series, Beat Pirates 5-1

The Washington Nationals looked for a bounceback performance after a 6-3 defeat last night at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The game got off to a sluggish start, with a rain delay and no scoring through the first four innings of the game. This changed when Anthony Rendon smacked a two run home run to give the Nationals a 2-0 lead. Washington tacked on in the sixth on a bases loaded walk to Mark Reynolds, a single from Adam Eaton, and a bases loaded walk to Juan Soto to take a 5-0 lead. The Pirates got on the board on a sacrifice from Max Moroff in the seventh to make the score 5-1 in favor of the Nationals. Pittsburgh later loaded the bases in the ninth inning but failed to score, securing a 5-1 Nationals victory and the third win of the season for Jeremy Hellickson.

Nationals will try to win the series tomorrow as Gio Gonzalez takes the mound at 12:35 PM in a game that can only be viewed on Facebook.
