Nationals beat Cardinals 8-1 in Game 3 of NLCS; recap: 10/4/19

The Washington Nationals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-1 in the first ever NLCS game in Washington, D.C. Now with a 3-0 series lead, the Nationals inch ever so closer to their first World Series, all thanks to their supreme pitching and hitting. Stephen Strasburg threw seven fantastic innings that yielded seven hits, one run, and 12 strikeouts. Fernando Rodney and Tanner Rainey provided excellent relief to keep the Cardinals’ bats quiet for the remainder of the night.

In the third inning, Adam Eaton hit an RBI single to score Victor Robles. Anthony Rendon then hit an RBI double to score Eaton, and after, Howie Kendrick hit a 2-RBI double to score both Rendon and Juan Soto. In the fifth inning, Kendrick proceeded to hit an RBI double to score Rendon, and Ryan Zimmerman followed with an RBI double to score Kendrick. In the sixth, Victor Robles, who had returned from a hamstring injury, hit a solo home run to center field, and for good measure in the seventh, Zimmerman hit an RBI single to score Kendrick. For Nationals fans who have waited so long for this kind of game, the Nationals have certainly delivered with this unforgettable combination of solid pitching and solid hitting that will undoubtedly prepare them for a chance at the World Series.

Tomorrow, Patrick Corbin will duel Dakota Hudson in hopes of punching Washington’s first ever World Series ticket. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcasted on TBS.
