Baseley McClaskey, junior defender for the Navy women’s soccer team, was named the Patriot League’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. The Mids went 1-0-1 over the weekend, shutting out both Stetson and Maryland.

McClaskey’s direct kick goal from just beyond the 18-yard box was the only score in Friday night’s 1-0 win against the Stetson Hatters.

On Sunday, McClaskey played 107 of 110 minutes of the double overtime tie against the Maryland Terps.

A 2016 graduate of Fruita Monument High School in Grand Junction, CO, McClaskey has now been selected the Defensive Player of the Week three times in her Navy career. She won it twice her sophomore year (the weeks of 9/25/2017 and 10/9/2017).

The Navy Mids have taken this award home twice in the young season. Senior defender, Kayla Robinson, won it last week.

With a combined 0.47 goals against average through four games, the Mids have recorded three straight shutouts. They are one of only 24 teams nationally to do so in the season’s first two weeks.

Next up for Navy is Gardner-Webb on Friday afternoon, followed by Western Carolina on Sunday at 1pm.
