Baltimore Has Agreement in Place to Host 2026 FIFA World Cup

It has been reported tonight that city officials have an agreement in place with Federation Internationale De Football Association, and the United States Soccer Federation, to be a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup should the USA-Canada-Mexico joint bid be accepted.

The city of Baltimore and M&T Bank Stadium are no strangers to hosting high-profile soccer matches. In 2012, it was host to England soccer giants Liverpool F.C. and Tottenham Hotspur during their pre-season tour. This would be a huge deal for the city of Baltimore in terms of revenue, and a major boost for soccer in the region.

Baltimore has always been seen as a city that should have a Major League Soccer team, and with such a high-profile event like the World Cup, the MLS could finally see Baltimore as potential expansion location in the future.

This news seems rather fitting for US soccer fans. Having failed to qualify for this summer’s World Cup, this gives fans something to look forward to but does not take away the disappointment of not qualifying.

FIFA will announce the host of the 2026 World Cup on June 13, 2018, and the vote will come down to the USA-Canada-Mexico joint bid and Morroco.
