#2 York College was too much for #7 Salisbury Seagulls to handle

Coach Jim Berkman and his flock of #7 ranked Seagulls traveled up to #2 York College for their first conference play of the season.

The game did not explode until the second quarter.

In the first quarter, no one scored, for either team. In the second, each team scored three each, all within eight minutes. York’s Ryan Cook was the first on the board, with an unassisted goal. Pierre Armstrong and Zach Pompea (assist) teamed up for Salisbury’s first goal, to be followed by a goal from teammates Corey Gwin and Josh Melton (assist). York’s Matt Whitcher found the back of the net with the assist from Jake Hvazda, score is even at two-a-piece. To round out the second quarter/first half, Salisbury’s Emory Wongus had a little help from a friend, Melton (second assist), and York’s Gunnar Reynolds capped it off with an unassisted goal.

The third quarter was dominated by York as they had eight goals; four of which they were playing man-up. Seagull Gwin scored both of the quarter, the first was while Salisbury was playing man-up, and the second was unassisted. End of the quarter: 11-5, York.

The fourth quarter was the same story as the third; Salisbury found the back of the net just once, while York dominated by scoring four more times; one of which was while man-up. Final score: 15-6, York.

Let’s take a closer look at the numbers:
Turnovers: Salisbury 19, York 14
Shots: Salisbury 19, York 39
Penalties: Salisbury 6.5 minutes on 8 infractions, York 2 minutes on 3 infractions
