Wynning! Delmarva Caps Impressive Homestand with W

The Delmarva Shorebirds completed an impressive homestand on Tuesday morning with a walk-off double by Austin Wynns. The Shorebirds won six of seven on the homestand. Delmarva’s pitching staff has been lights out.

The Shorebirds started by sweeping the Augusta GreenJackets. On Wednesday, Steven Brault pitched six scoreless innings, and Dylan Rheault pitched 3 more scoreless. Rheault has been one of Delmarva’s best pitchers this year, and he continues to have success each time out. The next day, Mitch Horacek twirled seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 victory. Mike Yastrzemski had key hits in both games. Sebastian Vader couldn’t keep the shutout street going, but Wynns came through on Friday with 3 RBIs. Yastrzemski hit his fourth triple of the year as well, and Delmarva completed the sweep with a 6-4 victory.

The Lakewood BlueClaws then came to Purdue Stadium, and Delmarva beat them on Saturday. Jeff Kemp (Archbishop Spalding) hit a grand slam in the 7th, and Delmarva cruised to an 8-1 W. After a setback on Sunday, Delmarva sent top-pick Hunter Harvey to the mound on Monday night, and he was on his game. Harvey pitched 7 scoreless innings, struck out 10 batters, and only allowed a single hit in the 3-0 victory. Jimmy Yacabonis converted his 9th save in as many attempts.

Today in the matinee, the Shorebirds turned to Brault again, and he was impressive, only allowing one run over six innings. Jon Keller then pitched three scoreless innings, but the score was still tied at 1. Josh Hart led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, and Wynns ripped a double down the line to win it for Delmarva.

The Shorebirds improved to 19-18 on the season. They now travel to Kannapolis for a three game series. hunter
