WWE Recap: Flashback To Fastlane

What a night as the road to Wrestlemania ran through Cleveland Ohio at Fastlane. Some things we expected to happen did happen and some things we didn’t see coming played a role into the story. Entertaining matches and a few twists and turns made it an enjoyable night. While the road to Wrestlemania is shaping up nicely there are still a couple questions that I’m sure will be answered on RAW and Smackdown over the next couple of weeks.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
The Usos (c) vs. The Miz & Shane McMahon
Tag Team Titles were on the line as Miz and Shane McMahon had their rematch with the Uso’s. Great match and Miz looked strong throughout the contest but in the end it was the Miz who got caught and pinned. As the Uso’s celebrated and Miz got love from his hometown crowd fr a valiant effort Shane turned the tables and made a statement. Attacking Mix from behind a brutal beating and forcing the Miz’s father to watch in anguish as McMahon tortured a stunned and beaten Miz. Heel turn complete Shane and done in spectacular fashion. Setting up a match for Wrestlemania that should be fantastic. (If you saw my article from yesterday i called this one, I will add the link at the bottom)

Fatal Four Way US Title
This was added late and little build up. Samoa Joe defended his title against R-Truth, Rey Mysterio and Andrade. Helluva match they made it fast paced and fun to watch. Rey looked to have the match won and become the new US champion until Samoa Joe capitalized on a miscue by Mysterio and caught him in his patented submission to retain the title.

Raw Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match
I loved this one as we got to see three promising teams face off and showcase dome young up and coming talent. Chad Gable looked great alongside Bobby Roode. The Revival were strong as always showcasing that old school style. Alister Black and Ricochet stole the fans hearts and the show. Ultimately the Revival retained their titles

SmackDown Women’s Championship Match
Asuka (c) vs. Mandy Rose
This one was good although rather predictable. Asuka looked fantastic as we have come to expect. Mandy Looked absolutely gorgeous and showed she has grown in the ring as a competitor. This one ended in rather curious circumstances. Sonya Deville Mandy’s partner with “Fire & Desire” went to get a kendo stick from under the ring leaving the ring skirt inside the ring. Mandy went for a move and slipped on the ring skirt leading to Asuka landing the finish and retaining the title. Mandy was clearly upset with Deville and what had transpired and Sonya seemed devastated that it happened. Will this lead to a break up between “Fire & Desire”? Mandy has the look of a face and Sonya is all heel so it would be easy to turn this into a pre established feud at any moment.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match
The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection (c) vs. Nia Jax & Tamina
Where to start? Match wasn’t good, how can Nia Jax fall down trying to lift up little ole Sasha Banks? How can both Tamina and Nia botch a catch on the floor of one small opponent? These ladies run the angle of being the biggest and strongest in all of wrestling but continuously fall short of expectations. Boring and somewhat sloppy match the god news is Sasha Banks and Bayley retained the titles. Interesting part is when former WWE icon and Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix was attacked by Nia and Tamina after the match. Natalia came to Beth’s aid only to be laid out herself no doubt setting up for the two blonde bad asses to reunite.

WWE Championship Match
Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Kevin Owens
This one got crazy early with Vince McMahon screwing over Kofi Kingston once again and setting up a triple threat by adding Mustafa Ali. High flying antics from Mustafa were impressive and Bryan and Owens looked great during this match. Nice pace to the match and a variation in styles made this one very entertaining. Bryan retained with some help from Eric Rowan who was at ringside. I will say this the fans didn’t have much of a reaction at all when Bryan won and seem to be tired of the story line and ready to move on from the champ. Will Kofi get his shot at Wrestlemania as I predicted in yesterday’s article?

Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair
As predicted (in my previously mentioned article lol) this one ended with a touch of Caos as Ronda Rousey made an intervention stomping Beck Lynch just once then propping herself on the ropes by the ref leaving him no choice but to call the winner via disqualification Becky Lynch. Charlotte was surprised but did nothing to impede Rousey nor retaliate against her. Match itself was rather limited with the injury to “The Mans” knee however they kept in entertaining and gave it some meaning. Telling the story WWE wanted to tell, it came across loud and clear. Wrestlemania will be main evented by a triple threat match between The Queen, The Man and The Baddest Woman on the planet

Six-Man Tag Team Match
The Shield vs. Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley & Baron Corbin
One last ride for “The Shield” and what a ride it was. Big spots, high octane action and brutal blows made this one fun to watch from bell to bell. McIntyre is the future if they allow him to be it. Looks the part, talks the part and walks the part this gut has World champion written all over him. Dean, Seth and Roman all laid it on the line for an epic reunion and brought it all night long. A future one on one match between Roman and Drew for the Universal title should already be in the works in my opinion. Great match lots of action fighting all over the arena great way to finish off the night.

Next stop is Wrestlemania keep an eye out as I will do a preview and predictions article prior to the event.
