The Worst calls in the Capitals Penguins rivarly

The Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins have a heated rivalry. The Pens have had the upper hand the past few seasons especially in playoff action. The Capitals have had some horrible calls from officials go against them and some non calls that were blatantly ignored.

Here are the top three horrible calls. All of which went the Penguins way.

1. Alex Ovechkin boarded.

This was one of the dirtiest boarding’s I have ever seen. Ovechkin went full speed head first into the boards after Craig Adams pushed him from behind. Ovechkin luckily was not badly injured. This should have been a five minute major and ejection for Craig Adams. Instead the Penguins got a power play because Mike Knuble fought Craig Adams after.  Take a closer look, the officials were literally right there when it happened.  This may be one of the worst non calls in NHL history.

2. Jeff Schultz gets a slashing penalty ten feet away from Matt Cooke. Cooke broke his stick and Schultz was trailing him. I could not find a video of the play but the picture says it all. Some how the officials still called a penalty on Schultz clearly they did not see the play and called it based on the broken stick.

3. TJ Oshie gets a phantom high stick call.

This was at the end of a 3 to 2 game. Oshie gets the box for high sticking when his stick clearly did not hit the Penguins player puts on a show. Horrible call that pretty much ended the game for the Caps.

4. Matt Niskanen gets the boot and a five minute major for hitting Sidney Crosby in the head.

At best this as accidental contact and Crosby was already going down. This was a blatant over call because it was Crosby. Any other player in the NHL does not get that call on the same hit. Where was this kind of call when Ovie got boarded… who knows.

As we do our count that was three completely phantom calls that went against the Caps yet one really bad non call that should have been a major that went the Pens way.
