Andrew Wood, senior offensive tackle for the Navy Midshipmen, has been named one of 179 FBS semifinalists for this year’s Campbell Trophy. Officially named the National Football Foundation’s 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy, the honor is awarded to the “best football scholar-athlete in the nation.”

Wood, a 2015 graduate of Friendship Christian School in Mt. Juliet, TN, has played 44 games for Navy. This season is the senior’s third starting at offensive tackle.

Academically, Wood is an Operations Research major at the Naval Academy. He has twice been named an Academic All-District and is on track to be a candidate for Academic All-American this year. Wood currently holds a 3.59 GPA.

Each year FBS schools nominate one player for the Campbell Trophy. The nominee must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of football eligibility. Also, the student must have a minimum 3.2 GPA and be a first team or significant player on the school’s football team.

On Oct. 31, the National Football Foundation will reveal the 12-14 finalists for this year’s trophy. Each of these finalists will receive a $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. The winner, who will be announced on Dec. 4 in New York City, will receive an additional $7,000 in grant money and the 25-pound bronze trophy.
