Wizards trade Dwight Howard to Grizzlies for C.J. Miles

Last night, the Washington Wizards traded center Dwight Howard to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for guard/forward C.J. Miles, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

After acquiring Howard, the Grizzlies were quick to waive the eight-time All-Star.

As for the Wizards, Howard’s gluteal (had surgery), back, and hamstring injuries sidelined him for most of the 2018-2019 season, and that likely caused the trade to occur, as Washington was concerned with his future.

In his short stint as a Wizard, Howard tallied 12.8 PPG, 9.2 TRB and shot 62.3% from the field. Although, some of these statistics may be skewed, as Howard only played in nine games.

On the other hand, the newly acquired Wizard, C.J. Miles, averaged 6.4 PPG, 1.8 TRB, while playing in 53 games for the Raptors and Grizzlies.

Miles’ season significantly improved statistically when he was moved to Memphis. The 32-year-old averaged 9.3 PPG in Memphis, while tallying just 5.5 PPG in Toronto.

Miles’ jump shot improved in the process, as he posted a .400 FG% in his time in Memphis, while shooting just .340 from the field as a Raptor.

The 15-year veteran will likely come off the bench as a wing-player primarily and may be a spot starter in case of an injury or a player being rested.

In my opinion, this was a solid trade by the Wizards, as they may have paid more for C.J. Miles, but got rid of the rather injury-prone Dwight Howard.
