Wizards Start the Season on the Right Foot

Head coach, Wes Unseld Jr., and his squad begin their 2022-23 campaign on the right foot with a 114-107 win over the Indiana Pacers.

The win came after a big game from guard, Bradley Beal, and forward, Kyle Kuzma, both went for over 20 points. However, Wizard’s center, Kristaps Porzingis, who was acquired in a trade later in the season with the Dallas Mavericks last year, ended the night with a double-double (15 points and 10 rebounds).

Another set of players who were acquired during the off-season, Monte Morris and Will Barton, had solid nights as well. Morris finished his Wizards debut with 7 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds. Barton established a name for himself in the District by putting up 14 points and 3 assists.

The big concern, though, is the fact that the 10th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Johnny Davis, did not even see the court in Wednesday’s win. Wizards fans must hope that it was just coach Unseld Jr. being cautious as Davis was dealing with a knee injury during the preseason. However, Davis, who averaged almost 20 points per game at Wisconsin in his sophomore year, only put up 10 points in 4 preseason games with most of his points coming from the free throw line. So it will be interesting to watch how Davis will be used within the Wizards’ rotation going forward.

The Wizards (1-0) next game is tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. against the Chicago Bulls (1-0) at Capital One Arena.
