Wizards lose third straight vs Nuggets

The Washington Wizards playoff hopes took another hit as they lose to the Denver Nuggets 113-108 on Thursday night.

Bradley Beal led all Wizards with 25 points, eight assists. Thomas Bryant added 22 points and eight rebounds. Washington also got a look at rookie guard Troy Brown Jr. as he made his first NBA start and played well. Brown scored scored a career-high 13 points and added five rebounds.

Eight Nuggets finished in double figures as Nikola Jokic had 15 points and 11 assists. Paul Millsap, Gary Harris, Jamal Murray and Torrey Craig also added 15 points for the Nuggets.

Both teams stayed competitive throughout, especially in the third quarter when both gave back double-digit leads in the third quarter, but the Nuggets again went up by 10 early in the fourth quarter. The Wizards tried to answer with a 10-4 run, cutting it to 106-104 with 1:53 left in regulation. Guards Murray and Barton increased Denver’s lead back to seven. The game was still in reach as Harris missed a pair of free throws with under 10 seconds remaining, only to grab his own rebound, absorb Beal’s foul, and this time hit two from the line with just over 7 seconds left.

The Wizards host the Miami Heat Saturday night.
