Wizards lose must win vs Charlotte

The Washington Wizards lost to the Charlotte Hornets 116-110 on Friday night. The Wizards had won two straight, while Charlotte had lost two straight and seven of nine.

Bradley Beal led all Wizards with 40 points on 15-of-29 shooting. Jabari Parker had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Jeff Green scored 20 points. Kemba Walker led all Hornets with 28 points. Jeremy Lamb added 18 while Nicolas Batum and Tony Parker had 16 points each for Charlotte.

Charlotte led by 13 at intermission, and Bismack Biyombo’s basket made it 79-60 early in the third quarter. The Hornets were on a mission throughout and led twice by 21 points in the quarter. At the start of the fourth, the Hornets led 95-78. With 5:26 remaining, the Hornets led by 10. The Wizards stayed competitive towards the end with efforts from different players. Beal made two free throws to cut the deficit to eight. Troy Brown Jr.’s made a layup which cut the deficit by 6, but Batum hit a 3-pointer, and Lamb followed with another. Jeff Green scores two free throws which made it 113-108 with 1:56 to play. Lamb picked up a 3-point play and the lead was back to eight, putting away any comeback effort.

Washington now sits in 11th place and is 2.5 games back of the Hornets (who now hold the tiebreaker thanks to Friday’s win), 2.5 games back of Orlando, and 4.5 games back from Miami in the 8-seed (who also holds the tiebreaker over Washington).

The Wizards are back in action on Saturday night as they host the Memphis Grizzlies at 7 pm.
