Wilson Ramos out 4-6 weeks

Washington Nationals catcher, Wilson Ramos injured his hand in the opener against the Mets. Ramos had surgery on his hand Wednesday to repair a broken hamate bone in his left hand. This is a hamate bone in case you were wondering. Ramos is expected to miss 4-6 weeks and was placed on the 15-day DL Wednesday afternoon retroactive to April 1.

According to manager, Matt Williams, “Everything went fine.” Ramos was productive when not sidelined with injury last year hitting .272/.307/.470 and 16 homers plus 59 RBIs in 78 games.

Jose Lobaton will take the spot of being the normal backstop for the Nationals. Lobaton played the majority of the games for the rays last year. He won’t be as productive as Ramos as he hit .249 with 7 dongs 32 RBIs in 100 games. Lobaton also doesn’t have the best cs% at 14%. However, Lobaton has experience catching a talented pitching staff as he caught one of the best ones last year.
The Nats called up Sandy Leon to take over as the backup. Leon didn’t even make it to Harrisburg camp.

Leon has little majors experience playing in 12 games across two seasons. Leon hit .173 in 98 games across double-A and low-A, in 2013.
