Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters had successful Tommy John surgery yesterday.  Wieters will miss the rest the season recovering but it is good news that the surgery went well.

The Orioles will hope to have Wieters back for the star of next season but that will be a close call.  Tommy John surgery is a long nine month recovery.

Wieters felt well enough to call in and talk to the Orioles broadcast booth.  Wieters said he will spend the month of July at home recovering but will hopefully be back with the Orioles in August and September.

Wieters is a leader and a good teacher so even having Wieters on the bench will be good for the team.  Caleb Joseph has done a great job calling games but Wieters can still help.
