Ravens fans, its week 10, which means the playoff picture is starting to develop. As of right now, the Baltimore Ravens are on the outside looking in, but have a generous schedule down the stretch. Since the Ravens have their bye this week, here are the teams and situations to root for and against.
The most obvious is to root for any NFC team playing an AFC team. As of right now, there are around six or seven teams within an arms reach of the wild card. At this point in the season, the opposing conference is as valuable as ever. The NFC can only help us from now on.
The main three teams to root against are the Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans. Luckily, either the Jaguars or Titans will end up winning the AFC South, meaning only one of the two have to collapse. Sadly they both have the head-to-head tie breaker against the Ravens.
The Jaguars have the easiest schedule of the three teams, with their toughest game left is against the now Richard Sherman-less Seattle Seahawks. The Jags get to play both the winless Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers along with three games against the AFC South aka the land of backup quarterbacks.
The Titans, who currently lead the South due to a head to head against the Jags, have to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Rams, along with the 49ers. They also have to play the other three division opponents.
The Bills, on the other hand, have a history of flopping and failing when the season is on the line. There’s a reason why they have not reached the playoffs since 1999. The Bills have one of the toughest schedules left in football. They have to play the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City and they are stuck with two games against the New England Patriots within four weeks.
The other teams with a shot of the two wildcard spots are the Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, and New York Jets. The Ravens already have the head-to-head advantage against both the Dolphins and the Raiders. But, luckily these three teams have been playing some terrible football lately.
So, to recap, root for any NFC team playing an AFC team and root for any team playing against the Bills, Jaguars, and Titans. Yes, that means us Ravens fans have to suck it up and root for the Patriots and Steelers for a few weeks. Granted all of this only matters if the Ravens can start winning on a consistent basis.
