Who is Troy Brown Jr?

With the 15th pick the Washington Wizards chose Troy Brown Jr. The internets were in a tizzy. The responses ranged from ‘wtf is Troy Brown Jr.’ to outright tirades. Things only got worse when people discovered that the Washington Wizards’ second round pick was for a guy named Issuf Sanon. How soon they forget the magic that became a young Czech named Tomas Satoransky.

Washington Wizards fans feel like they have suffered enough and they want to see action regarding the team and producing a winner NOW. The type of NOW that really means last year or the year before. Seeing as no one really knew who Troy Brown Jr. was when he was drafted, was he given a fair response? Clearly the answer is no. So lets see what we can find out about the Washington Wizards newest player.

If Wikipedia can be believed, which it can’t always, he was born and raised in Las Vegas by an athletic family. He was a McDonald’s all American and he won a gold medal in the 2016 FIBA Under-17 World Championship. Doesn’t sound too bad so far right?

He looks alright? Bigger than his peers, not afraid of contact, can actually make shots.

I literally added this video, courtesy of MaxPrep, for the little Mugsy Bogues looking kid at the end. These Troy Brown Jr. highlights are also from a 2016 Nike EYBL event.

Troy Brown Jr. chose to attend Oregon University where he played for the Ducks. He was considered a top 13 pick of the class of 2017. His sole season at Oregon he averaged 11.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists. He’s been listed as a guard and a forward so he seems pretty versatile. Versatility, along with enthusiasm and hard work goes a long way.

His ball handling skills look good and he knows how to capitalize on turnovers, rather than create them. *COUGH, COUGH*
