What to make of the Orioles 2018 Rotation

With Opening Day just two months away the Orioles have done nothing to boost their league worst rotation in 2017. With no answers to the Orioles rotation, it looks that it will be addressed within the organization unless asking prices drop the Orioles will stay passionate with free agents.

Free Agents

Andrew Cashner- 3.40 ERA 11W 11L 166.2 IP

Lance Lynn- 3.43 ERA 11W 8L 186.1 IP

Alex Cobb- 3.66 ERA 12W 10L 179.1 IP

Our Guys

Kevin Gausman- Looking to take the next step this season Gausman is in line to become the Orioles Opening Day starter for the second consecutive season. Starting last season off slow hurt Gausmans seasons stats but with hopes to gain off the second half of the season Gausman will hopefully take the next step in 2018.

Pre All- Star: 5.85ERA 5W 7L 97 IP

Post All- Star: 3.41ERA 6W 5L 89.2 IP

Dylan Bundy- After finally letting Bundy loose in Baltimore he posted a 4.24ERA 13W 9L 169.2 IP in 2017. One thing Bundy will look to improve on in 2018 is putting away batters once he gets ahead in the count. Often getting ahead in the count, 325 times Bundy got the batter in an 0-1 count but the pitch after he let up 74 hits, 9 of which HR’s. The 2018 story for Bundy will hopefully be better and more consistent but the future for Bundy is bright.

In the Mix

Nestor Cortes- Cortes the Rule 5 pick from the Yankees looks to be in the Orioles rotation starting the season. Posting a 2.06ERA in 48.1 IP, Cortes split time between Double-A and Triple-A affiliates but still had stand out numbers. Looking to follow in fellow Orioles Rule 5 picks, Cortes has the chance to really help the 2018 birds.

Miguel Castro- Coming out of the bullpen for the birds in 2017 Castro had respectable numbers 3.53ERA 3W 3L 66.1 IP. Given the chance to start Castro would be a work in progress as a starter.

Mike Wright- Given a chance before to be in the Orioles rotation Wright has not made much of his chances and I really don’t see that changing. In 15 starts in 15-16 seasons Wright is 6W 9L 5.86ERA 144.1 IP.
