Weekly NFL Fantasy Football News and Notes: Preseason Week 2, 8/19/19

Welcome to a new series, where I will be briefly noting and commenting on NFL fantasy football news and notes for each game of the season. Let’s begin with preseason week two, where plenty of players were given opportunities to prove themselves for a roster spot for the season.

Jaguars vs Eagles, August 15th, 2019:

Eagles rookie running back Miles Sanders carried the ball five times for 31 yards in a limited, but productive performance against Jacksonville on Thursday night.

Redskins vs Bengals, August 15th, 2019:

Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins completed seven passes off 14 attempts for 114 yards and one touchdown. Haskins would also throw his first touchdown, completing a 55-yard pass to pass catcher Robert Davis.

Ravens vs Packers, August 15th, 2019:

Lamar Jackson completed six passes for 58 yards in limited action against Green Bay in Thursday’s contest. Notably, rookie runner Justice Hill carried the ball 10 times for 49 yards and one touchdown, which would be a one-yard carry. Chris Moore caught four passes for 54 yards and one touchdown, thrown by backup signal-caller Trace McSorley.

Packers wideout Geronimo Allison caught two passes for 20 yards in a short-lasting appearance on Thursday.

Falcons vs Jets, August 15th, 2019:

Matt Ryan went 10/14 for 118 passing yards against New York on Thursday night. Backup rusher Ito Smith carried the ball five times for 13 yards and one touchdown given limited playing time.

Sam Darnold was put on a short-leash on Thursday night, despite going 5/7 for 46 yards against Atlanta. Darnold seemed precise and accurate with a limited amount of snaps.

Cardinals vs Raiders, August 15th, 2019:

Cardinals first-round pick Kyler Murray threw three completions for 12 yards in a dissapointing performance on Thursday. Murray was also accountable of three penalties in the first quarter, including two false starts and was sacked twice against Oakland.

Raiders rusher Josh Jacobs was not given much playing time on Thursday, but was effective, carrying the ball four times for 21 yards, holding a YPA of 5.3.

Panthers vs Bills, August 16th, 2019:

Bills quarterback Josh Allen completed nine passes off of 11 attempts for 102 yards in an efficient performance on Friday night.

Buccaneers vs Dolphins, August 16th, 2019:

Jameis Winston was limited by Tampa Bay on Friday night, completing just two passes for 24 yards off four attempts, yielding a 50% completion percentage.

Newly acquired quarterback Josh Rosen was serviceable under the night lights on Friday, completing 10 passes for 102 yards off an astounding 18 attempts. In my opinion, I was surpised that Rosen was given a plentiful of playing time.

Giants vs Bears, August 16th, 2019:

Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones went 11/14 for 161 yards and one passing touchdown in what seemed to be efficient, until he proceeded to lose two fumbles on Friday.

Colts vs Browns, August 17th, 2019:

Browns wide receiver Rashard Higgins caught four passes for 34 yards on Saturday afternoon.

Colts tight end Jack Doyle caught one pass for 19 yards given limited playing time against Cleveland.

Titans vs Patriots, August 17th, 2019:

Patriots wideout Jakobi Meyers caught six passes for 82 yards in a prolific performance against the Titans.

Titans veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota completed six passes off nine attempts for 63 yards and had one touchdown pass against New England.

Steelers vs Chiefs, August 17th, 2019:

Chiefs rusher Carlos Hyde carried the ball five times for 23 yards in limited action against Pittsburgh.

Steelers breakout scatback James Conner had six attempts for 28 yards before being taken out of the game against Kansas City. Wideout James Washington caught the ball four times for 78 yards. Washington has been incredible this preseason, as he has received the ball eight times for 162 yards and one touchdown in two games.

Texans vs Lions, August 17th, 2019:

Texans gunslinger Deshaun Watson went 5/7 on the day, throwing for 60 yards and one touchdown.

This preseason, the Lions have been 3-22 on third-downs, and dropped to 0-2 on Saturday.

Rams vs Cowboys, August 17th, 2019:

Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott went a perfect 5-5 on Saturday, throwing for 64 yards. Dallas rusher Tony Pollard carried the ball for 42 yards in just one series against Los Angeles.

Rams rookie receiving back Darrell Henderson ran the ball for 16 yards, and caught it 38 off six receptions.

Chargers vs Saints, August 18th, 2019:

Saints quarterback Taysom Hill threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns including 53 yards on the ground against Los Angeles.

Chargers power back Justin Jackson carried the ball eight times for 33 yards against New Orleans. Jackson will likely split carries with Austin Ekeler if Melvin Gordon plans to hold out the 2019-2020 season.

Vikings vs Seahawks, August 18th, 2019:

Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins completed six passes off eight attempts for 68 yards in the first quarter against Seattle. Newly-drafted rusher Alexander Mattison carried the ball ten times for 41 yards before Minnesota turned to Mike Boone for the running back duties.

Seahawks starter Russell Wilson went 6/9 for 82 yards against Minnesota, looking as accurate as his best season with Seattle.

Broncos vs 49ers, August 19th, 2019:

49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was off against Denver, as he went 1/6 for no yards and one interception. On the ground, Raheem Mostert has ran for 58 yards off six carries and one spectacular 30-yard rushing touchdown at the time of this article being written.

The Broncos have been plauged with injuries in this contest, as quarterback Drew Lock was removed from the game with a hand injury, and first round pick Noah Fant was taken out with a foot injury.
