Washington Spirit return to Audi Field

Back by popular demand, Women’s soccer will be played at Audi Field once again, for the second time in three weeks. The Washington Spirit will take on Reign FC this Saturday night. Reign FC is currently one place above the sixth-place Spirit in the NWSL standings. This penultimate home game and final time in the District will be crical and a must-win for the Spirit and they’ll likely have another packed house cheering them on.

Both clubs are coming off a win over Orlando. Reign FC met them last Saturday and ripped off three goals in the first 20 minutes for a 3-1 victory. Reign FC will be without midfielder Jessica Fishlock with a torn ACL sidelining her for the season. Besides Fishlock, forward Darian Jenkins and midfielder Bethany Balcer have lit up the scoreboard for Reign FC. They also boast two U.S. women’s national team players in Megan Rapinoe and Allie Long.

It’s been a while since the Spirit have taken the pitch. Their Aug. 31 game at Orlando was postponed due to Hurricane Dorian but they did beat Orlando a week earlier 2-1 at Audi Field.

Tonight’s meeting against Reign FC will be their third and final meeting with them this season. Both of the first two meetings ended in draws at 0-0 and 1-1, respectively.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. on the Monumental Sports Network and NBC Sports Washington.
