Washington Nationals vs. Boston Red Sox 7/2/18

The Boston Red Sox beat the Washington Nationals four to three at home and took a one to nothing series lead.  This was a highly contested battle between the Nationals and Red Sox in the first game of the series. Max Scherzer and Rick Porcello dueled valiantly against one another. Porcello ended up besting his former Detroit Tigers teammate when he hit a three RBI double off of Max Scherzer in the second inning. It did not take too long for the Nationals to answer though. Anthony Rendon hit a solo home run in the fourth and Daniel Murphy hit his own solo home run in the sixth. As soon as the Nats started to gain some momentum Mookie Betts hit a solo shot to give the Red Sox closers some additional breathing room. Bryce Harper joined the solo dinger party in the eigth inning with his own (his twenty first of the year). Unfortunately, the late game surge from the Nats was not enough to seal the victory.

Scherzer ended his night with six innings pitched, four hits allowed, three walks, and nine strikeouts. Porcello finished with six innings pitched, seven hits allowed, two walks, and five strikeouts.

Nationals batters totaled nine hits and nine strikeouts. Red Sox Batters totaled seven hits and 13 strikeouts. Game two of the series will be played tomorrow at 6:05 PM. Tanner Roark will be facing off against Brian Johnson
