Washington Football team hires Marty Hurney as General Manager

Per Ian Rapoport, the Washington Football Team will be hiring Marty Hurney as the teams GM. The initial fan reaction has been overwhelmingly negative, with fans calling the move nepotism and another thing pointing towards this team becoming the “Washington Panthers.”

However, this may be a huge overreaction from the majority of fans. The dynamic in Washington won’t be the same as it was in Carolina. Unlike with the Panthers, Ron Rivera will have the final say on everything in the organizations head coach centric approach.

Also, all signs point to fan-favorite Kyle Smith staying with the team. Many fans wanted Smith to be promoted to GM but there seems to be a consensus around the league that he just isn’t ready.

Smith and his staff have become stars when it comes to drafting late round stars, something that seemed to be Hurney’s biggest struggle in Carolina. This could become a best of both worlds situation in Washington.

At the end of the day, the fans need to trust Ron Rivera with this decision. He has in one year largely changed the culture of this team and turned them around. This offseason will sure be an exciting one in Washington, with lots of questions to answer.
