Washington Commanders At Philadelphia Eagles Week 10 preview

The Commanders will travel up I-95 to take on the Eagles Monday Night at 8:15 on ESPN. The Commanders look to end the Eagles perfect season on Monday. The Eagles beat the Commanders in week 3 this season 24 to 8. The Commanders defense gave up too many big plays in the last meeting and will need to limit those on Monday. The O-line of the Commanders gave up 9 sacks in week 3, but I believe with Heinicke playing quarterback they should only give up a couple sacks Monday. The Commanders will need to control the ball and keep Hurts off the field if they want to win on Monday.

Offense

The offense has gotten off too slow starts the last two weeks. That will need to change this week because of how explosive the Eagles offense is. The Commanders will need to either put up points or control the ball to compete against the Eagles. I expect them to control the ball because this offense hasn’t showed it can put up a lot of points. The only problem with controlling the ball is they didn’t run it well against the Eagles in week 3. Gibson was the leading rusher with 38 yards and the team total was only 87 yards. They will need to have over 150 rushing yards if they want to be successful against the Eagles.

The Commanders will need to stay in third and manageable on Monday. They didn’t do this in week 3 because they gave up nine sacks and had multiple penalties. If they can stay in third and manageable situations it will be easier to extend drives and keep the Eagles offense on the sidelines. The Commanders will also need to protect the ball and have zero turnovers on Monday. On the one turnover the Commanders had in week 3 the Eagles scored a touchdown off it.

Finally the Commanders need to get the ball to Terry McLaurin more. Last week he only had 5 touches. He needs to have at least 10 touches a game. They need to run more slants and underneath routes for Terry, which will also allow him to utilize his run after the catch ability.

Defense

The Commanders defense has been playing a lot better the last month. I expect a better showing this time against the Eagles. Now that doesn’t mean they will shut them down completely. I just expect them to not give up as many big plays this time around. The Commanders will try to keep everything in front of them and make hurts take underneath routes.

The Commanders also held Jalen hurts and the Eagles rushing attack in check in week 3. Hurts only rushed for 20 yards on 9 attempts. Miles Sanders rushed for 46 yards on 15 attempts. And as a team the Eagles only rushed for 72 yards. The commanders will need to repeat this again Monday.

Finally for Chase Young. The Commanders have until 4 PM Monday to activate him. It is unsure at this time if they will or not. My guess is they wait until next week to bring him back at this point. Especially after what Jack Del Rio and Ron Rivera said about him at practice this week.

Predictions

I think this will be a closer game than people expect. The Commanders will need a few things to break the right way to win the game, but I expect it to be a competitive game. The Commanders will need to win at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, which they will on defense. I do expect Heinicke to turn the ball over, which will cost the Commanders. The Commanders will lose this game 24-17, but will cover the spread.
